Red Lobsters makes a flavorful and not too spicy cajun seasoning. This goes well on top of shrimp, chicken, fish, and sprinkled on top of baked potatoes or even corn on the cob. This spice mix can be best described as something between Old Bay Seasoning, and Tony Casares seasoning. If you haven’t had the pleasure of trying out a cajun seasoning mix yet, this one is perfect.

2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp cumin
1 1/4 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder

Mix all ingredients together and store in an air tight container. This is better if you can blend with a mortar and pestle, or in a spice blender.

This recipe was sent in by a fellow viewer. The recipe was her Father’s. It’s great for sipping around a campfire on a cold night! I especially like this recipe because the mix is delicious, and honestly better than I have purchased. It makes about two pints, and you will have enough for yourself, and to give to a special friend.

For the Mix
1 LB Dark brown sugar
1 Lb powdered sugar
1 LB butter (not margarine)
4 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp nutmeg

Soften butter and mix all ingredients together.
To serve place a heaping tablespoon and a half of the mixture in a mug, add 1 jigger (1&1/2 oz) rum and fill with boiling water. Mixture will last indefinitely in freezer.

Thanks to Mari for sharing this recipe.

You don’t need to buy a box of Hamburger helper for something this easy and the taste is so much better. Quick and easy.

1 lb of ground beef
1 packet of Lipton beefy onion soup mix
4 1/2 cups of water
1 Lb of Bow Tie Pasta
1 can of mushroom soup if wanted
1/2 – 3/4 cups of sour cream

Brown the ground beef and then drain off fat in a large skillet that has a lid. Add the onion soup mix , water and mushroom soup mix if it’s wanted and mix well and bring to a boil. Add the Bow Tie pasta and bring back to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium high and cover. cook for 10-12 minutes. Take off heat and gently stir in the sour cream. Enjoy this quick and delicious version and you won’t go back to the box.

If you would like to make more of a meal out of this add some fresh broccoli or other vegetables. If you want a cheesy dish use a cheese instead of the sour cream. Throw in some diced tomatoes and really enjoy something nice.

Thanks to Maclll for sharing this recipe.

Also since they’ve come out with flavored Creamora’s, I find those make a nice addition. I use half regular and half flavored. Since the mix tends to pile high I always tap the spoon on the edge of the container to obtain my “heaping teaspoon”.

Hands down, I have found the most perfect pancakes. Here is Alton Brown’s pancake recipe. I can’t even begin to say how tasty these are.

Dry Mix
6 C. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda (check expiration date first)
3 tsp. baking powder
1 Tbsp. kosher salt
2 Tbsp. sugar

Combine all of the ingredients in a lidded container. Shake to mix.
Use the mix within 3 months.

“INSTANT” PANCAKES:
2 eggs, separated
2 C. buttermilk
4 Tbsp. melted butter
2 C. “Instant” Pancake Mix, recipe above
butter for greasing the pan
2 C. fresh fruit such as blueberries, if desired

Heat an electric griddle or frying pan to 350 degrees F. Heat oven to 200 degrees F.
Whisk together the egg whites and the buttermilk in a small bowl. In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the melted butter.

Combine the buttermilk mixture with the egg yolk mixture in a large mixing bowl and whisk together until thoroughly combined. Pour the liquid ingredients on top of the pancake mix. Using a whisk, mix the batter just enough to bring it together. Don’t try to work all the lumps out.

Check to see that the griddle is hot by placing a few drops of water onto to the griddle. The griddle is ready if the water dances across the surface.

Lightly butter the griddle. Wipe off thoroughly with a paper towel. (No butter should be visible.)

Gently ladle the pancake batter onto the griddle and sprinkle on fruit if desired. When bubbles begin to set around the edges of the pancake and the griddle-side of the cake is golden, gently flip the pancakes. Continue to cook 2 to 3 minutes or until the pancake is set.

Serve immediately or remove to a towel-lined baking sheet and cover with a towel. Hold in a warm place for 20 to 30 minutes.

Yield: 12 pancakes
