There are literally thousands of kitchen gadets out there. With the arrival of a new Williams Sonoma catalogue you may find yourself suddenly needing a kitchen gadget you never knew existed before. Before you go out and purchase a new gadget consider what new life and functions your existing gadgets may aleady have.
A good sharp knife can replace many small gadgets. A sharp can replace a vegetable peeler, an egg slicer, and there is no need for that spring favorite; the strawberry corer. While ppeling some vegetables may go a littl eslower with a knife, you do receive so much more control with a knife. A good paring knife will displace the egg slicer; as it will readily slice through mushrooms, eggs, and strawberries. You can see that a good knife can have many different functions. A rolling pin can also have many different functions. You can use a rolling pin to crush nuts, tenderize meat, as well as rolling out dough. To crush nuts simply place them in a zip lock bag and gently roll the pin over the nuts until they are crushed to where you desire. You can tenderize meat in much the same way. Place the meat in a ziplock bag and tap the meat gently to flatten and tenderize the meat. Rolling pins can do so much more than rolling out dough. Perhaps you have seen the kitchen gadget that will help you peel garlic? It is a small plastic tube that sells for around 8 dollars. Did you know you can peel your own garlic quite easily for free. simply roll the garlic clove in your hand or a slightly damp towel until the skin falls off. The skin will fall off, leaving you the garlic clove ready to use. There are thousands of kitchen gadgets out there that are available. While all the gadgets tend to be somewhat useful, you can save your money and space in your kitchen if you find other uses for your current kitchen utensils. With some clever thinking you can use what you have in new ways and, as what you have on hand is very likely to save your needs. |
