You can enter your specially carved watermelon at the contest page. Now the deadline is coming up very soon.

You might be wondering how we did our watermelon. First off I have to thank Matt Murphy for his help. Matt is one of my kitchen testers here, and somehow I wrangled him into helping with the watermelon man. So we cut a watermelon in half, and I made Lego blogs with one half, and Matt was the lucky one that carved out the head of the Lego man. It doesn’t hurt that Matt works at a haunted house and spends time making props.

For the head, we simply carved away the rind, and shaped up the watermelon into a head. We then cut out the eyes, mouth, and eyebrows. For the black, I colored some peanut butter with black food coloring. We then put a little paper towels into where we made the cut ins. Peanut butter will not stick to plain watermelon. It will stick to paper towels.

For the Lego blocks, we cut the other half of the water melon into rectangles and squares. We made the clicking mechanisms of the Legos by using a small melon baller and pressing it into the watermelon and then cutting away the excess portion of the watermelon so we would have Lego Bricks.

From January 21 through January 25, we will have several judges pick out the best recipes, and then from January 25 through the 31st, you will get to vote for which recipes will win. Good luck to all of the entries!

Recipe Contest: StarKist Tuna

So now it is time for you to come up with your own copy cat recipe. Maybe you have your own version for Subway’s Tuna Salad, or maybe you have a terrific recipe for Panera Bread’s Tuna Salad. So for this contest, I first will be collecting recipes for the next two weeks, please either post your recipe in the comment section, or you can email me the recipe. If you have a photo, I can attach a photo to your recipe creation. If you are a food blogger, you need to recreate a new recipe for the contest, I will link to your post, but it has to be original content.

So on the 22th, I will have some of my fellow food bloggers pick out the best 3 recipes, and then from the 22 – through the 29th, I will let you decide who is the winner.

The winner will receive this nifty prize pack, pictured above for their winning entry. Runners up will receive a copy of my book.
