If you have not tried Friendly's Peanut Butter Sauce, you have not enjoyed ice cream in an amazing way. I will show you how to make a copycat Friendly's Peanut Butter Sauce at home.
Until recently I never went to a Friendly's before. I recently went to Orlando, and in jest, I suggested we should go to Friendly's. My friend said we should go. So we did if you have never been to a Friendly's, that alone is magical. For me, it was like how Denny's should be. The menu was broad, the food was good. Then there was ice cream. I am not a fan of ice cream. Having worked at a Dairy Queen in high school and college, my love of ice cream diminished. I flew too close to the sun, and my love of ice cream was forever slashed after coming home wearing ice cream every day for a couple of years. That much contact with ice cream is unnatural, it killed my love of ice cream.
I was game, my friend was oh like you should try it here, it is amazing. I had always heard about the peanut sauce, so I ordered something with the well-known peanut sauce. I was thunderstruck. The peanut sauce was magical. Peanut butter sauce on ice cream was magical. I knew that was a recipe I needed to work on. I asked if I could buy some from the restaurant, no, it was not for sale. So what did we do? We went back again and again.
So today, I have for you, my version of Friendly's Peanut Butter sauce, but I will say if you don't live near on in your area, as they are only up north, and in Orlando, you should stop there. Have a patty melt, and save room for ice cream. I mean to stop there and have ice cream with peanut butter sauce.
My recipe makes about a pint and a quart of a pint. I store mine in a canning jar in the refrigerator. It stays fresh for a couple of weeks. You will need to heat this up for a moment or two before serving, it hardens back up in the refrigerator. If you do not want to use corn syrup, I recommend Golden Syrup, it is just like corn syrup but it is made with sugar cane.
