How to Make Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha

There are two ways to create this drink.

The easiest way is to purchase the white mocha sauce. It can be found at Starbucks, World Market, or have it shipped to your door from Amazon (Fontana White Chocolate Mocha Sauce).

The second method is to use white chocolate, either bars or chips to make your own white chocolate sauce. You can find both at your local grocery store.

Grab some espresso (either instant or regular), milk, and some whipped cream and you are on your way to the perfect white mocha!

If you are using white chocolate bars or chips:

In a double boiler, melt the white chocolate with the milk. Pour the milk mixture over the espresso and top with whipped cream.

If you are using white chocolate syrup:

  1. Add the white chocolate sauce to a coffee mug.

  1. Heat the milk to about 150 degrees Fahrenheit (between 140 and 160 degrees). Froth the milk with a frother if you want the milk frothy and creamy.

How to Make Espresso Without an Espresso Machine

If you don’t have an espresso machine you have options:

  • You can use Instant Espresso and it works well.
  • You can make extra strong coffee.
  • You may want to invest in an inexpensive Bialetti Moka Express Espresso Maker. The Bialetti Moka pot can help you make espresso coffee on the stovetop without an expensive coffee maker. Italians have been making their espresso this way for almost 100 years.

It tastes soo good but I’ve never tried the original so I don’t know if the white chocolate is meant to come through – I can’t taste. Nonetheless, I absolutely love this!

My stepson just started college. There’s a Starbucks on campus. He “needs” their White Chocolate Mocha every day, with TWO shots of espresso. Cheap it ain’t. So thank you for this recipe. He only likes it iced (even though I tried explaining to him that it’s twice as expensive, per actual drinkable ounce, than hot).
I’ll get the supplies this weekend and we’ll make it together.

Just some info: The grande size, which is the Starbucks medium, should come standard with two shots of espresso and four pumps of the white mocha sauce, iced or hot. The milk volume would be the only thing affected, SBX recipes are standardized though. You should be able to get the same thing at every location. Was he ordering it as a double, or was he asking for an extra shot? There is a difference in both content and price there. Also the iced cups are sized up by 4 oz to account for the ice.

Here is some information about it from sciencing website they state,
” White chocolate has its origins in the 1930s and is a candy made from the fat or butter of cacao beans. However, it excludes the cacao components that give ordinary chocolate its characteristic flavor and appearance. It usually contains far more powdered or condensed milk and sugar than does regular chocolate, making it considerably higher in calories and affording white chocolate a creamier texture and taste.”

  5. Ev

Unfortunately white chocolate is not milk sugar and butter. White chocolate comes from a product of chocolate making. Cocoa butter. That is what is the base of white chocolate with sugar. Dairy is used as a means of stretching. It is not necessary.

I’m pregnant, so love the fact that I could easily make this at home, BUT how could I make it so it’s “half decaf” do I just not use as much espresso? Also, I do not have an espresso maker – nor have I ever attempted to make anything other than regular coffee in our coffee maker haha advice/tips are greatly appreciated!

O just go to Starbucks and pay £3:95 for a tall white chocolate mocha and wait 5 mins cos I can to make it myself XD

Unfortunately Starbucks turned their back on the customers you can no longer buy the Fontana white chocolate mocha sauce through Starbucks or even Amazon . Starbucks did a horrible job in implementation and execution of closing the store, I call the 800 the Starbucks customer service they say hey ‘ ‘ we closed our store to drive more traffic to the stores, so you can buy our products there, but of course the store says if we can’t ring in the Fontana sauce, the 63 oz version, we are not allowed to sell it’. And even when I call several local stores, the corporate office has not instructed the local stores and what is going on and if the product ever available again in a 63 ounce bottle version . Definitely one of the main ingredients in their sauces is mostly sweetened condensed milk, that is what the Starbucks employee told me so it would be great to get as close as possible to the recipe as possible. I’ve tried all the other brands of white chocolate mocha sweetener and they definitely do not come even close to the Fontana brand. Ultimately maybe it’s the best thing that I don’t have access to this flavor anymore because it’s probably the most unhealthy thing for you, but darn I love it and I was addicted so maybe this will break my addiction LOL . But it’s definitely extremely disappointing that Starbucks executed this in the way they did in reference to closing their store, now you have probably Starbucks employees selling it on eBay for double and triple the price so it’s creating it’s own little black market. Starbucks just lost a loyal customer !!

Btw- try a Breville espresso machine. Works amazing! But it definitely takes a little practice to get it just perfect, but it is definitely worth the effort once you get it down

    • Stephen Link

Todd, ditto on your entire comment. I used the Fontana sauce for several years and would usually make my own White Chocolate Mocha (on ice) when it was late at night or when I just didn’t feel like going out. Starbucks wasn’t losing any business because I had that sauce at home. Now, I just don’t have the drink at night or if I’m not going out. It hasn’t meant a penny’s worth of difference except that I would buy the Fontana sauce when it was available which would end up in Starbuck’s coffers anyway. So, in a way, they are losing revenue because I now don’t buy anything from them if I don’t want to go out. Before, they got my money also by selling me the sauce.

This is the closest recipe that I have found online. I add a few marshmellos to this recipe because if you don’t then the white mocha chips rehardens. I would also suggest, because this recipe makes a lot, to refrigerate it and then warm it up each time you use it. Here is the recipe:
      INGREDIENTS
      600 ml sweetened condensed milk
      14 ounces evaporated milk
      3⁄4 cup sugar
      1 tablespoon vanilla
      1 teaspoon instant espresso
6 ounces white chocolate, cut up in small pieces
