Arby’s Horsey Sauce

To paraphrase the commercial, Arby’s certainly does have the meats. While the fast food chain offers a large and growing menu, there’s no denying the roast beef roots that made Arby’s famous. The delicious, thinly sliced meat is excellent on its own but is made even better with one of Arby’s unique condiments — Horsey Sauce.

What makes Arby’s Horsey Sauce so good?

There are no actual horses involved, but Arby’s Horsey Sauce still kicks like one! The spiciness comes from creamed horseradish, a prepared version of the pungent grated root. But unlike some sinus-clearing horseradish recipes, the spice is evened out with velvety mayonnaise and a bit of sugar, creating a perfect balance.

Why This Copycat Arby’s Horsey Sauce Recipe is the Best

Those who’ve enjoyed the real thing know Arby’s Horsey Sauce is delightfully smooth. But plenty of online recipes for it aren’t, leaving behind noticeable bits of horseradish.

Fortunately, this version solves that problem by opting for creamy horseradish instead, which can be found in the condiment section of your grocery store. Arby’s now sells a bottled version of their Horsey Sauce that you can purchase.

Arby’s Horsey Sauce Ingredients

You may be surprised how simple it is to make Arby’s Horsey Sauce with just four everyday items:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Sugar
  • Creamed horseradish
  • Salt

How to Make Horsey Sauce

This tasty, creamy, spicy sauce comes together in just a few minutes:

  1. Add mayo, horseradish, sugar, and salt to a small bowl.
  2. Stir well until combined.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour before serving.

For the best flavor, make the horsey sauce the day before eating and refrigerate overnight.

How to Serve Arby’s Horsey Sauce

For a true Arby’s experience, drizzle your horsey sauce over thinly sliced roast beef on a bun. The creamy spiciness perfectly complements the rich savoriness of the meat. It’s also great for dipping fries, particularly the curly fries that Arby’s is famous for.

Other Uses for Arby’s Horsey Sauce

Don’t limit yourself to roast beef sandwiches. This incredible condiment fits a vast selection of dishes. Naturally, it works on just about any sandwich that could use an extra kick, like turkey, ham, or club sandwiches.

By the same token, it also works in place of (or alongside) mayo on burgers, chicken sandwiches, or fried fish sandwiches. It even matches well with grilled meats like steak, pork chops, lamb, or chicken.

Use Arby’s horsey sauce as a dipping sauce for French fries, onion rings, or fried mushrooms.

Arby’s Horsey Sauce is so delicious that you may find yourself pairing it with nearly everything!

How to Store Leftovers

Any leftover Arby’s horsey sauce can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

Freezing isn’t recommended, especially considering how quick it is to whip up a fresh batch.

How long does horsey sauce last?

It’ll stay good for seven to 10 days. Some even enjoy the sauce more after a day or two when the pungent horseradish has had plenty of time to infuse into the creamy mayo.

I can’t wait to try this. I’ve been looking everywhere for the Arby’s Horsey Sauce but it’s not sold so this is the next best thing.

Me too Stephanie! LOL I am a Southern girl, and I do not care for Miracle Whip except in certain recipes. I am a Mayo lover as well. 🙂

        Hi Stephanie,
Have you ever heard of Date Nut Cream Pie. Believe it or not, they served it years ago in Canteen Machines in and around Kankakee, IL in factory lunch rooms (not cafeterias, machines). I have never been able to find it. I have no idea about ingredients. Some sort of pie cream base, maybe mocha in color, had dates and nuts it it, cream cheese frosting, or some white frosting. Probably not many have heard of it.
        Thanks
        John

        Date and Nut Cream Pie

        1 baked 8-inch pie shell
        1/2 cup sugar
        1/2 tsp. salt
        2 tbsp. cornstarch
        2 cups rich milk
        2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
        2 tsp. butter
        1 tsp. vanilla
        3/4 cup chopped dates
        1/2 cup chopped pecans
        1/2 cup maraschino cherries

Mix suar, salt and cornstarch in saucepan. Slowly stir in milk. Boil 1 minute over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir half of mixture into egg yolks, then blend into hot mixture in saucepan. Boil 1 more minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Blend in butty and vanilla. Cool. Blend in chopped dates, chopped pecans, and cherries. Top with whip cream if desired.

Use Miracle Whip and creamy horseradish for Horsey Sauce. It’s spot on. Quick, easy, and you can adjust the amount of heat in relation to the sweetness of the Miracle Whip.

    • Stephanie Manley

I will have to give your Miracle Whip suggestion a try sometime. I personally only buy Miracle Whip when I make cole slaw. I think I have lived in the south for so long my arm only reaches for mayo.

    • Nunya

It may be the vinegar in the Miracle Whip that makes a difference for this. I just now started looking for a copycat horsey sauce (why it took me so long I do NOT know! lol) and I found another that is very similar to this but calls for 1 tbs of vinegar as well. I haven’t made either yet, but I think I’ll make both to the exact ingredients listed and let you know what I think of each! ^_^

Im looking for the recipe for the jalapeno sauce from Arbys or the sauce they serve with them. it has raspberries
    in it.

    • Nunya

Is it this one, hun? Bronco Berry Sauce? I know you said it has raspberries in it, but the only I found that says it’s served with their jalapenos is this, but it does not have berries. I’d still give it a try though! LOL

I enjoy something that has been sitting around all day that will make me go the the ER. So, I say bbq sauce

      • uneducated redneck

I have no healthcare coverage because my lifestyle choices had me born with an IQ around 70 with no family and I do janitorial work for minimum wage because that is all I am worth. Yes, Scott could accept Medicaid Expansion and I would have healthcare and save tax money by getting help much sooner, keep hospitals open, save jobs, and that would be awesome! In the meantime that bump on my back has grown 250 times bigger because I cannot see a doctor unless I wait for a health disaster and go to ER and cost 100s thousands in bills. I am happy with this humane approach Scott has taken as I deserve to suffer and die because I made bad lifestyle choices. In the meantime, I do enjoy horsey sauce and I actually lived off of 100+ packs a day when I lived in an abandoned car. Very good sauce!

      • Nunya

Wow, you’re probably the least funny troll trying their hardest to be funny that I’ve ever seen. Good job. Big ol’ sarcastic thumbs up to you!

    • bastisraul

We really enjoy a garlic black pepper vinegar sauce for shrimp fritters, pulled pork or baked chicken. We also use it as a basting sauce when grilling chicken. Just the right amount of flavor and does not overpower anything.

I have to comment on the Miracle Whip vs. Mayo thing. I use Mayo for everything EXCEPT for making Pimento Cheese spread. It just works better for it. And it’s really simple – just grate plain, boring American Cheese (as much as you want), get a tiny jar of pimento’s , drain them, and chop up the amount you want in your cheese, and mix together with Miracle Whip. Put in a covered bowl in the fridge overnight, then add more Miracle Whip in the morning (it eats up the Miracle Whip) to your desired consistency again. My roomates and I survived on this in College. Oh, I THINK what makes Miracle Whip different from Mayo is Lemon Juice in the Miracle Whp.
For ALL other things, though, I prefer Mayo.
Also…. I checked out “creamy horseradish” on Amazon… there are so many varieties… could you give me a clue on which one you ended up using with the Mayo, please? I’m a big fan of Horsey Sauce, and like many others, would have gladly bought it if they’d just sell it! 🙂
