Hearty Tuna Pie is a unique tuna pie. This tuna pie is made with packaged stuffing mix, then is topped with a light dill and tomato sauce. You can do things with tuna other than tuna salad, and tuna noodle casserole. You can try something new and unique with this Hearty Tuna Pie.

Sometimes you are looking for something different for dinner, and this hearty tuna pie may be exactly what you are looking for. The pie as a whole reheats very well. If you plan on serving this dish over a more than one meal, don’t add the sauce until just before serving.
Hearty Tuna Pie
This recipe is very unique, a lovely sauce is poured over a warm and flavorful tuna pie.
Ingredients
- Crust:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3/4 cup crushed dried crumbly herb seasoned stuffing
- Filling:
- 2 cups crushed dried crumbly style herb seasoned stuffing
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 16 ounces Starkist Albacore Tuna, drained & flaked
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
- Sauce:
- 1/3 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 1/3 cups water
- 1 teaspoons dill weed
- 1/2 teaspoons sea salt
- 2 cups cubed fresh & seeded OR well drained canned tomato chunks
Instructions
Heat oven to 350.
In a 3 quart saucepan melt 1/4 cup butter. Stir in 3/4 cup dry stuffing Mix well & press onto bottom & up the sides of a greased 9″ pie pan. Set aside.
In the same saucepan stir together all filling ingredients; spoon over crust. Bake at 350 for for 50-55 minutes or till heated through.
Let stand out of oven for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile in 2 quart saucepan, melt 1/3 cup butter. Mix together cornstarch and water before adding to the melted butter.
Stir in remaining sauce ingredients EXCEPT tomatoes.
Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally till mixture comes to a full boil (5-7 minutes). Add well drained & seeded tomatoes; simmer for 1 minute. To serve cut pie in wedges an then poor sauce over wedges.
