Buffalo Chicken Dip – have all of the goodness of hot wings without the mess!

May 19, 2009

Buffalo chicken dip is always a hit at every party I have taken this to.  This  dip tastes just like hot wings without the mess, and without the work.  Bring this to your next party or tailgate party. Buffalo chicken dip is so creamy and delicious, when ever I have taken this dip to a party, the bowl always comes home empty. This recipe can be very flexible, if you like blue cheese dressing, you can use blue cheese salad dressing in this recipe rather than using Ranch salad dressing. You like this a little more spicy? You can add more Frank’s Red Hot Sauce if you like a little more spice in your dip. Be sure to serve this dip with plenty of crunchy celery sticks for your guests, and everyone will fall in love with your Buffalo Chicken Dip. Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe

Buffalo Chicken Dip

1 10 oz. can chunk chicken, drained
8 oz cream cheese
1/2 cup Franks hot sauce
1/2 cup bottled ranch salad dressing
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Microwave cream cheese until soft. Blend in other ingredients, breaking up chicken. Mix until smooth. Place in ovenproof dish. Bake at 350 until bubbly-about 25 minutes.

Now you can do a lot of variations in creating this buffalo chicken dip, for example, I like to simple boil up a few chicken breasts in place of the canned chicken breasts as suggested in this recipe. When you cook up your own chicken breasts, you can use organic meat if you like, and you don’t have to worry about the salt that canned chicken breasts may be processed with. You may have some left over chicken in your refrigerator, so you may want to use what you already have on hand.

Just on a personal note, I have swapped out the ranch dressing for blue cheese and it comes out well too!

  • Buffalo momma

ummm….I have lived in Buffalo all my 30 years and Ranch is not what true Buffalonians put in their Chicken wing dip….we use chunky & creamy blue cheese like Rooties or Maria’s….and I personally put celery chunks in it too….just an FYI

  • Kathy

I put in 4-6 oz of crumbled blue cheese and i use the perdue already grilled chicken and i chink it tastes better than the can

So… I assume 1c means one cup as in a measuring cup, not 8oz as in a bag of pre-shredded cheese right?

  • http://www.copykat.com admin

Yes, 1 C means 1 cup. This recipe is pretty flexible, you could use the 8 oz. of cheese.

  • Jane S

What do you dip with on this recipe? Celery sticks?

  • http://www.copykat.com admin

Celery sticks, corn chips, crackers, honestly this is so good, I have just ate it straight.

  • Maureen

I’ve had this minus the ranch dressing. its great on crackers and with celery. you can cook up a chicken breast or use canned both versions are great. i could eat it for a meal : )

I make Buffalo Chicken dip regularly and everyone loves it. First off, I don’t use Ranch Dressing. I use Marie’s Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing. I also use about a half a jar instead of 1/2 cup. Second, I boil 3 chicken breasts and shred them. I also fold in the chicken and cheese last. Finally, I serve it with Tostitos scoops and it is amazing. Happy eating! :)

i agree with buffalo momma…no self respecting buffaloian or anyone from the surround area ( born and raised in niagara falls for 34 years) would eat their chiken wings with anything less than bleu cheese…and please dont forget the celery and carrot sticks!!!

I also make this dip but I layer mine. The bottom layer is chicken and Frank’s hotwing sauce. For the second layer, I warm together the ranch or blue cheese dressing and cream cheese on the stove and then pour over the chicken layer. Finally, I top with shredded cream cheese and bake in the oven. Same recipe.. just layered. I have had it both ways and enjoy the layered recipe more.

Godsent from heaven! Thank you Stephanie!

I make this dip but use chicken breast and shred it…much better than canned chicken. Also, I add 1 cup of chopped celery.

Ranch dressing seems to be a very regional thing. Down here in the southwest, we use it on everything! This recipe is fantastic both ways, even if one is a little blasphemous.

I have to agree with you about this recipe being good, and it shouldn’t be for oh so many reasons. I love this dip!

My son puts this on hoagie rolls and eats it as a sandwich. He loves it and even got my mom hooked on the sandwich idea!

I make this dip, substituting lower fat sour cream for some of the dressing and using canned turkey, heating it in the microwave until bubbly and heated through. Yum.

Buffalonian here….and yes you do have to replace the ranch for chucky & creamy blue cheese dressing…also use a chicken breast and just cook in the microwave for a few minutes.

This is one of my kids’ favorite dips. I’ve tried using strained non-fat Greek yogurt in place of the cream cheese and it also tastes great.

I can totally see these ingredients (sans chicken) as a dip for chicken fingers. Okay, I have to get more Frank’s hot sauce, bye!

  • Cindy

I have made this recipe before only using rotisserie chicken instead of canned chicken. Turns out much better.

  • Tina

I do not like bluecheese so I do use the ranch. I also like to put it on luttuce and add tomatos, more cheese and anything else you like on tacos and make tacos or burritos. The other thing is to make sure you get Franks buffalo chicken hot sauce….makes all the difference.
