Benihana Salad Dressing – you may not be able to go out to Benihana every night for dinner, but you can make one of their salad dressings at home.

Going to Benihana is a special treat.  You literally watch your dinner being prepared in front of you.  While you can’t go there every night, you can recreate their salad dressing with our taste alike recipe.

Make some of this tonight.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon chopped ginger root
  • 1 tablespoon chopped celery
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a blender. Process until almost smooth. Any unused portions may be stored in a covered container in the refrigerator.

    Unfortunately I thought this recipe was a little off from the real flavor… Not sure why, since I’ve seen this recipe as the “right” recipe in a lot of places. It was way too tomato-y for me. Next time, I will cut down on the tomato paste, up the rice wine vinegar, and add a lot more ginger. (I used fresh ginger that I grated in strips… maybe the trick will be to use an equal amount of store-bought minced ginger?)

    I enjoyed this salad dressing the ginger and soy gave it the best flavor!
