This recipe was graciously sent in by a fellow viewer. His recipe came from the Joy of Cooking Cookbook.  I really love these chocolate chip cookies.

Chocolate Chippers

Yield: 3 dozen.
1/2 C. shortening
1/2 C. granulated sugar
1/4 C. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 C. sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. soda
1 6-ounce package semi-sweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
 

Cream shortening, sugars, egg, and vanilla till light and fluffy. Sift together dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture; blend well. Add chocolate chips. Drop from teaspoon 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven (375 degrees) 10-12 minutes. Remove cookies from sheet immediately.
