Boston Brown Bread
Thanks to Carole for sending in her favorite Boston Brown Bread Recipe.
1 C. yellow corn meal
1 C. rye flour
1 C. whole wheat flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3/4 C. molasses
2 C. buttermilk

Mix and sift together the dry ingredients. Combine the molasses and milk. Add to dry ingredients and stir only to blend. Fill the greased molds 2/3 full. Use 1 pound coffee can or brown bread pans with covers. Cover, and place in a steam kettle, and steam for about 3 hours. Take covers off and finish baking in a 400 degree oven.
