Old Fashioned Apple Pie
Enjoy this fall favorite pie with a scoop of ice cream or even a slide of cheddar cheese.
6 C. Peeled, cored, and sliced Apples (red delicious or gala)
3/4 C. sugar
1/4 C. Brown sugar
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1/8 tsp. Nutmeg
1/8 tsp. Ground cloves
1/8 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. flour
1 Tbsp. Lemon juice
Measure apples and put into a large bowl stir in lemon juice and set aside
while preparing pastry crust.
2 C. Sifted flour
1 tsp. Salt
2/3 C. Shortening
4 to 5. Tbsp. Cold water
Blend flour, salt and shortening until it feels like small peas. Add COLD
water and blend until dough starts sticking together. Divide dough in half
and turn out on to a floured surface and roll our for the bottom crust.
Take care and do not over work the dough or it will get tough and will not
be tender.
To the sliced apples add remainder of ingredients and mix well. Top with
sliced butter. Roll out the remainder of dough and place on top of the
apples, seal edges. Brush the top of crust lightly with milk and sprinkle
with cinnamon and granulated sugar.
Bake at 400 degrees or 50 min or until done.
