Outback Steakhouse Mac A Roo N’ Cheese

February 3, 2009

This is a favorite for kids when they go to the Outback Steakhouse; now you can make this one at home.

Macaroni and Cheese

Outback Steakhouse Mac A Roo N’ Cheese

Yield: 4 -6 servings.
12 ounce package medium size rigatoni pasta
1/2 pound store brand processed cheese food (cubed)
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1 and 1/2 cup milk

Prepare rigatoni using package instructions. Drain and set aside. In a large saucepan, on medium heat, melt butter and add flour, stirring constantly. When mixture thickens, add milk, salt, paprika, and cheese cubes. Stir constantly until the sauce thickens, yet is smooth. The cheese sauce should resemble an extra-thick cream. If mixture is too thick, a little more milk may be added. Pour the drained pasta in the sauce and gently stir. When pasta is completely coated with sauce, the Mac A Roo is ready to serve.

heavy whipping cream instead of the milk?

  • http://www.copykat.com Stephanie

Yes, I recommend the heavy whipping cream in this recipe, you could use milk, but heavy cream reheats better and has more flavor.

Thank you. this was great. Kept me from taking my grandson to Outback again as the Macaroo is the only thing he orders.

  • Adam

It is only made from Velveeta and heavy cream. Melt cheese add cream and pasta. Its that easy

  • MC

Yup, worked there for four years… It’s actually a bag of precooked penne pasta velveta cubes and heavy cream popped in the microwave and poured in a bowl. Nothing fancy about it at all.

  • Chelsea
