Outback Steakhouse Mac A Roo and Cheese

You can prepare macaroni and kids just like the Outback Steakhouse does, now you don't have to have a kid to serve up this dish.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounce package  medium size rigatoni pasta
  • 1/2 pound store brand processed cheese food (cubed)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 and 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

Prepare rigatoni using package instructions. Drain and set aside. In a large saucepan, on medium heat, melt butter and add flour, stirring constantly. When mixture thickens, add milk, salt, paprika, and cheese cubes. Stir constantly until the sauce thickens, yet is smooth. The cheese sauce should resemble an extra-thick cream. If mixture is too thick, a little more milk may be added. Pour the drained pasta in the sauce and gently stir. When pasta is completely coated with sauce, the Mac A Roo is ready to serve.

heavy whipping cream instead of the milk?

    • http://www.copykat.com Stephanie

Yes, I recommend the heavy whipping cream in this recipe, you could use milk, but heavy cream reheats better and has more flavor.

    • Kelly Robinson

Since I worked there, I know for a fact it was always made with heavy cream, velveeta, butter, and penne. No paprika or flour

  • Paige

Yup, worked there for four years… It’s actually a bag of precooked penne pasta velveta cubes and heavy cream popped in the microwave and poured in a bowl. Nothing fancy about it at all.
